Auto Twitter feed, Google Adsense were added to the WMICT Champions website in October to see if a website could become self financing.
twitterIn November and December I regularly posted content onto the site and had a healthy number of visitors and as the Twitter feed directs people to the page they were interested in and the Google ADsense ads placed adds based on the content it also created a small click through revenue stream.
In January, I have so far refrained from entering content onto the site and have noted thst there was a 25% drop in traffic to the site and a 96% drop in income from the ads.
I should stress that the amount of income is under £10 in a good month from ADSENSE so an organisation should think carefully before instructing web designers to add it to their site.
Amazon - shops
I also added an amazon shop to the site, partly based on the fact that with two members of the family at University we need a boot load of books. I think in fact that we are the only people to have used the bookshop.
The embargo is now off and I am tweeting and adding articles to the site. I will let you know if there is a recovery in web site hits and of course if you want a book ....
Conclusions
- Twitter will drive people to your website
- a small percentage of People will click adsense links (go on, you know you want to)
- on line stores did not work
