Newent Playground - soc media success

At the GetWithIT conference last week, your item on using Facebook and Twitter really got me thinking.

playplayI'm part of a local group of volunteers in my town who are trying to improve local play facilities for children.

We'd just heard last week that we could bid for Playbuilders but had only a week to get our expression of interest together.

Our biggest problem was how to do public consultation in such a short space of time.

fbfbWe set up a group on Facebook and invited every local person we had on our friends lists to join.

That was last Friday. This morning we have 49 members and the comments they've provided have been put into our submission as back up evidence.

We're keeping the group going and hope that it grows and grows.

We'll use it to do more public consultation and to keep local people informed of what's happening with this project.

Ours is just a small town but we've been really impressed by how well Facebook has allowed us to consult with the local people. Going to that conference last week was really useful to me - I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we get Playbuilders.

Thanks for your very useful advice.
