People want to add an image to an address label, either as a way of creating a funding sticker for envelopes, name badges for delegates, quick business cards or, in my case I use to create labels for honey jars.
To create labels in word is straightforward, and to add an image all we do is add a field code. A field code is a place holder for data in Microsoft Word and is held within {} braces.
- To start with you will need an image of the correct size for your label (Word will not resize the image for you)
sampleFor my requirement I have created an Image in PowerPoint including the text - this allows me to have the text to the right of the image.- Select the Tools menu, letters and Mailings, Envelopes and Labels.
- Choose the Labels tab.
- Click the Options button and select your mailing label size.
- Place your cursor in the label box and Press Ctrl F9. This will insert field braces { } into the text box which will surround your file path.
- Type INCLUDEPICTURE then press the spacebar followed by the location of your graphic file in quotes. You must use double slashes to separate folders. For example:
- {INCLUDEPICTURE "D:\\my documents\\my pictures\\misc\\sample.png"}
- If you have added the text to your image (standard text for every label) then you have move move to step 10
- If you want to add text from a mail merge e.g. addresses from a mailing list then move your cursor past the end brace } press the Enter key to move to the next line. This places the addresses below the graphic.
- Type your address as normal. The address will appear under the graphic.
10. Click the New Document button. A label page appears with just the address portion showing. Your graphic will not display unless you show field codes.
11. Select all of your document by pressing Ctrl A then Press F9. Your images should display.
12. If you plan on printing these labels on a regular basis, you should save the document.
