The use of Social Media within the Voluntary and Community Sector is just beginning.  For many organisations and people this is a worrying time with a real concern that organisations will lose control of their identity.

There is a danger that organisations, or individuals within organisations leap in without any planning and that the entry into social media is disjointed and fails.

Measuring Impact - Outputs and Outcomes

There is a need for some ICT systems to help capture and report on the outcomes information. A small consortium in Warwickshire asked me as the ICT Champion to look at the options available to them and then create a shortlist of suppliers.

pound coinspound coinsThere can be little doubt that over the next few years funding will be increasingly difficult for many organisations to find. It is likely to be the medium sized organisations that will struggle most and there is pressure for many organisations to collaborate or merge.

Twitter, websites and adsense

Auto Twitter feed, Google Adsense were added to the WMICT Champions website in October to see if a website could become self financing.

twittertwitterIn November and December I regularly posted content onto the site and had a healthy number of visitors and as the Twitter feed directs people to the page they were interested in and the Google ADsense ads placed adds based on the content it also created a small click through revenue stream.

Beware of Trojans-AntivirusLive

A small voluntary sector organisation has been attacked by a nasty Virus. The virus, in the form of a Trojan (a piece of software pretending to be one thing whilst infecting your computer) The Trojan offers to remove spyware and viruses but once you click run your system is compromised.

On January 27, Peugeot announced that that it will hold an "eco-driving" challenge on February 28, with drivers taking a Paris-to-Geneva course using as little fuel as possible. The recent popularity of such events has drawn attention to the many techniques drivers can use to maximize fuel efficiency on the road. With that in mind, these DIY tutorials feature a variety of easy eco-driving tips.

Newent Playground - soc media success

At the GetWithIT conference last week, your item on using Facebook and Twitter really got me thinking.

playplayI'm part of a local group of volunteers in my town who are trying to improve local play facilities for children.

We'd just heard last week that we could bid for Playbuilders but had only a week to get our expression of interest together.

Our biggest problem was how to do public consultation in such a short space of time.

Data is increasingly the lifeblood of the voluntary sector, we are asked to produce reports on every aspect of our work and need to account for the publics funds we have been awarded. Increasingly these reports are moving away from activities undertaken, toward measuring the outcomes achieved through those activities.
